The University of Maine in Orono is the flagship of the University of Maine System and the State's Land Grant and Sea Grant University.




UMaine is one of 99 "High Research Activity" universities in the US.

Classified by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, UMaine conducts $70 Million to $100 million of R&D annually, with strong specialties in engineering, marine science, composites, physics and surface science, biological and ecological sciences, and forestry and agriculture.

A growing number of businesses are incubating on campus and at the UpStart Center for Entrepreneurship. Even undergraduate students are actively encouraged to innovate and learn how to navigate risk through the support of the Foster Student Innovation Center.
