The Town of Orono has an opening on the Orono Tree Board!

Tree Board members serve in three-year terms advising Orono’s Public Works Director/Tree Warden on matters related to managing the Town’s public tree program.  This involves evaluating the health of trees; planting trees; collecting and analyzing data; providing feedback on tree related Town policies; completing requirements necessary to maintain the Town’s  25-year Tree City USA designation by the Arbor Day Foundation; and supporting other miscellaneous educational opportunities. Over the next few years, the Board plans to update the Town’s Urban Forestry Management Plan.

The Board holds regular monthly public meetings (via Zoom at this time) that usually last approximately one hour. Tree Board members are required to be Orono residents with preference given to those with a technical background in arboriculture, forestry, or other natural resources. For more information about the Orono Tree Board, please refer to the Town of Orono Vegetation Ordinance (Chapter 38) or contact Orono’s Public Works Director, Rob Yerxa, at ryerxa@orono.org or by calling (207) 889-6101.

Committee Application forms are available here

Email the completed application to Nancy Ward at nward@orono.org or mail it to Town of Orono, 59 Main Street, Orono, ME 04473.
