Essex Street Construction Notice

road construction

August 25, 2021

A paving project is about to begin as part of the FY22 Capital Infrastructure Improvements Plan (FY22 CIP) approved by the Town Council in June, 2021. The area of work will be on Essex Street, from the City of Bangor / Town of Orono Line to just before Gould’s Landing.

This project is a pavement preservation project, intended to extend the life of the existing road. It will include a shim, or leveling course intended to smooth rough areas, followed by a 1 ½” structural asphalt pavement overlay. This work should extend the life of the road by up to 15 years.

The leveling course is currently scheduled for Tuesday, August 31st. Some minor ditching and inslope excavation will follow, with the final paving scheduled for the week of September 13th. Following the final paving we will return to place pavement markings, and match driveways and lawns to the new pavement.

The entirety of the project is expected to be completed by the end of October.

No road closures are planned for this project, though you should expect delays while the crews are there paving, traffic control will be in place and access to your driveway will be maintained at all times.

Thank you in advance for your understanding and patience as we work through this much needed project. Should you have any questions regarding any phase of the project, including scope and scheduling, please feel free to contact me at 889-6101, or via email at
